Likewise, sister site The Escapist thoroughly enjoyed Röki on PC in its video review, praising not just its visuals but the strength of its narrative and its themes. Polygon Treehouse was established in 2017 by Tom Jones and Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, two former art directors at PlayStation / Guerrilla Games, so this is clearly an indie studio with a lot of prior experience. The game describes itself as non-violent and offering accessible controls. You will record your progress in a journal, mapping uncharted regions and potentially earning unique “wilderness explorer” badges. Exploration is the crux of the gameplay though, with assorted items to collect, puzzles to solve, and riddles to work out. In Röki, Tove will befriend “creepy-but-cute” monsters and also have to deal with not-so-nice monsters. Protagonist Tove will find herself on a journey to save her family in a “long forgotten world” of strange creatures. It is described as a “ dark fairy tale” adventure game that is inspired by Skandinavian folklore, and the game boasts a striking visual style. 15, following from the game’s PC release back in July.
